Flat Rate Expenses

Flat rate expenses are the cost of equipment that you need for work, if you are in employment. This equipment may include tools, uniforms and stationery.

A Revenue “review”, otherwise known as a clampdown, on the scheme caused much confusion and outrage last year. After some political pressure the issue was parked. It had been hoped that it might be quietly swept under the carpet never to be heard about again, but unfortunately that appears not to be the case.

Revenue are currently carrying out a review of the flat rate expense allowances. This is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. The effective date for the implementation of any changes arising from the review is deferred until 1 January 2020.
