It is that time of year again with business owners having to get ready to file their tax return for 2016. The Revenue online System (ROS) Pay & File Extended Deadline is on 14 November 2017. To qualify for the extension, you must both pay and file through ROS. Where only one of these actions is completed through ROS, the extension does not apply and the required date to submit returns and payments is 31 October 2017.
How to pay and File With ROS
Log onto ROS now to ensure that you can access ROS successfully. This will give you time to resolve any password or login issues before the filing deadline and avoid a late filing surcharge. It can take up to 10 days to obtain a new ROS digital certificate.
File now, pay later
You can file your return now and submit a payment instruction for a date up to 14th of November if you have a ROS Debit Instruction in place. The payment will not be taken until your chosen date.
Income Tax
To avail of the extended deadline of the 14th of November 2017, you must file the 2016 Form 11 return and make the appropriate payment through ROS for:
Capital Acquisitions Tax
For beneficiaries who received gifts or inheritances with valuation dates in the year ended 31st of August 2017 who make a Capital Acquisitions Tax (CAT - IT38) return and the appropriate payment through ROS, the due date is also extended to 14th of November 2017, otherwise the 31st of October 2017 deadline applies.
